Polygraph Time

In the past, justice says that a man is innocent until their culpability is demonstrated. In the past times, this principle of innocence presumption was proposed with the faith that a man is good, free and responsible of these facts. But also, this principle propose that the justice may be erroneous.

In modern times, every man is culpable. A man or woman should be a delinquent, gangster or in the worst of the case a terrorist. Not only when he or she is confronted for their acts to the human justice in a court, also when a man or a woman requests an interview for a job or a visa to visit a country.

Today, I felt a terrible offence when a friend told me that every enterprises in Colombia uses polygraphs for their physiologic interview for a call for jobs. Questions such as: are you a terrorist? or you know "guerrilleros"? or your family or your friends have sympathy for communist ideas? It is simply incredible. I think now, if these enterprises answer about the sympathy for extreme - right dead forces... or paramilitary or drug or weapons connections, in these cases, if the candidate says "yes", automatically the job is for him.

I can't understand what is the fear or the politic of these enterprises with the use of the lies detector. I thought that only the security agencies could use and only with an express authorization of a court and moreover with the presence of counsel or lawyer and for an ongoing process. Where is the human dignity ? Several of these enterprises are transnational enterprises, but I want to know if those methods are legal in their home countries. I am sure that not.

On the other hand. Where is the Colombian government that ensures the dignity of its citizens? Where is the protection to the honest worker? Where is the people that walking, make facebook groups, "graffitis", TV shows, radio shows and songs for the "dignity" of a country? Or only it exists a "relative" dignity?

Anyone can justify the fear. But these methods generate more fear. May be is their goal. Fear of their employer. Fear to think different. Fear to demand labour welfare. In the colony time at America... the fear was the best weapon to keep slaves. We should not feel more fear ... we must condemn these practices and promulgate our right to be free, worthy and innocent.
